GIS Services
GIS is software that can add organize, manage and export geographical data.
Several of our clients use our GIS services to map their tourism resources and integrate them with the GIS of the city or county in which they're located.
Mapping your data in a GIS gives you flexibility to output different kinds of maps for print, interactive applications or the web.
Cartagram produces most of its custom maps using Geographic Information System (GIS) software.
So what's a GIS? A GIS is software that collects, organizes and stores geographic data. Anything that has a location can be placed in a GIS. Data can come from national and local sources. We usually combine data from different sources when creating a map. We often add data, such as real estate developments, building locations and commercial sites requested by our clients.
GIS software imports information such as street, boundary, river, lake, and points-of-interest data and displays it in layers. It can be stored as a library, displayed as a web map or generated as a print map.
Economic Development
Economic development can make use of our services to build a library of economic data. We can:
• Build a library of data relevant to the industrial and economic interests of a city, county or region,
• Generate maps with client-requested layers of data (for example, a custom map emphasizing railroads, ports, and automobile part manufacturers)
• Provide an accessible map display on the internet so prospective businesses can decide where to open locations for manufacturing or retail sales.
Other GIS Services
We can supplement a city's or county's existing GIS data by creating a special layer of data. For example, most cities have a GIS consisting of streets, land parcels, rights-of-way, and civic building locations. We can produce a layer of data for the city's Convention and Visitor Bureau; this data would include locations for convention sites, downtown public and private parking, historic sites, etc. The data can be maintained and when updated, it can be sent to the city for inclusion in their GIS and used to generate custom maps.
